While I was listening to Ariana Grande’s “Thank You, Next” for the billionth time, I realized homegirl is giving us some valuable lessons on how we should be looking at our careers (and life in general).

Let’s break it down.

Be thankful for every experience as it teaches you something

In the song, instead of looking at her past relationships as mistakes, Grande explains she’s thankful for each experience and lists off what she’s learned from each of them.

It’s important to look at your career and life in a similar manner.

When an experience doesn’t turn out how we expected or we move on from something, we’re quick to label it as a “mistake” or “failure” and that’s just wrong.

Each experience teaches you something about yourself and shapes what you want/who you want to be. We evolve throughout our lives (as we should) and every experience is an opportunity to add to our personal toolkit.

Invest in yourself and be proud of your accomplishments

Grande talks about her new relationship, which she’s sure will last. This relationship is with herself. She acknowledges the obstacles she’s overcome and how much she’s accomplished.

Yes 👏🏽 Girl 👏🏽 Yes 👏🏽

It’s so important to acknowledge when you’ve overcome an obstacle or hardship. Things don’t always come easy and when you navigate that, you need to give yourself some credit.

Stop looking for happiness in external factors – only you can control your happiness

There’s a transition in the song when Grande establishes a new relationship with herself. She realized she doesn’t need to search for happiness from others, but rather in herself.

Stop putting your happiness in the hands of others. No one else controls that besides you.

Be so f*@#ing grateful for those experiences and get on to your next adventure

‘Nuff said. Thank you, next.
